A Message from our State Chair on Post Irma Recovery

On behalf of Associated Builders and Contractors of Florida we want to thank Governor Scott, our federal, state and local officials, our first responders and volunteers for all of the assistance they have provided and continue to provide to the residents of our state. The preparation and response to Hurricane Irma is a momentous task that is ongoing.  Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this storm.

As the Chair for ABC of Florida I want to convey that our industry of commercial contractors, associates and suppliers stand ready to offer any assistance we can as we work to rebuild our great state. We also want to provide some guidance for the rebuilding process.

While you look to rebuild, it is critically important to use only use licensed contractors.  You can verify a company and their license by visiting Florida's Department of Business and Professional Regulation ( or the Disaster Contractor Network (  Both sites list residential and commercial licensees.  Also, do not forego written contracts, be sure to receive lien releases or other evidence of payment and verify all work is permitted.

ABC and its members will be working with local governments to expedite permits and inspections so that critical projects are moving forward while still going through the appropriate regulatory processes. As of today, we want to thank Governor Scott and DBPR for waiving certain permitting requirements for roofing projects resulting from Irma-related damage.

Lastly, if you are considering a career in construction, the industry could certainly use the help.  ABC of Florida and our five chapters around the state invest a lot of time and money in the training programs we provide from apprenticeship to task training.  Please visit our website at  You can also visit your local career source websites for industry companies looking for help.

ABC of Florida and its 2,500-member firms are prepared to assist Florida and its citizens as we rebuild our great state together.
