Call to Action

In recent years, and certainly during the prolonged economic downturn, local governments took extra
steps to offer assistance to companies within their communities.  And
while we understand the desire to assist constituents during difficult times, the
end result is a fragmented and anti-competitive public procurement process.

Local and geographic preferences decrease competition and drive up costs for
the work.  And in the long run, these efforts hurt businesses more than
they help them.

ABC is once again fighting to bring open and competitive practices back to
public procurement.

Senate Bill 778 would preempt local governments from instituting their local
preference on projects where the majority of funding comes from the state.
We believe this is a fair and balanced approach to what has become and
unfair and anti-competitive process.
